As a founder or CEO, you may often feel like you don’t have a boss.
However, there’s an internal boss inside your head that can be quite the arsehole, pushing you to work long hours, neglecting your well-being, and undermining your self-confidence.
This inner boss can manifest as imposter syndrome (BTW, Imposter Syndrome is a feature not a bug) or overachiever tendencies. So, how can you deal with this internal critic and take back control?
The first step is to listen and acknowledge the presence of your inner arsehole boss. Keep a notebook handy and jot down instances when this inner voice is pushing or criticizing you. By becoming aware of its presence, you can start to recognize its patterns and understand its impact on your thoughts and actions.
Once you’re able to identify your inner boss’s voice, you have the power to choose whether or not to listen to it. This awareness enables you to exercise control over your reactions and decisions. With practice, you’ll build the mental muscle needed to tune out this unhelpful voice and focus on what truly matters.
Remember, you don’t have to let your inner arsehole boss dictate your life. By acknowledging and controlling its influence, you can regain your confidence, maintain a healthy work-life balance, and ultimately lead a more fulfilling life as a founder or CEO.
