A mangle-ism.
My wife mangled this quote a few years ago and it still makes me laugh today.
But it’s totally correct. It’s all too easy to not see the opportunity right there in the front of you.
I am extremely selective about who I work with, I speak to at least five CEOs a month beyond the select few I do work with. Mutual fit is the cornerstone of my business and it would be all too easy for me to say I’m not taking on new clients or to keep them in a holding pattern.
The reality is the most interest people I work with were not people I thought I’d work with. This week along I’ve been surprised by a CEO who is under 30, and runs five businesses, adverse as I am to the hustle culture, so is he it turns out, making us a great fit.
The CEO of a global agency, the CEO of a ed-tech company, the CEO of a tiny Romanian security company. All people who completely blew my mind when I spoke to them and who when we explored deeper it turned out we could do amazing things together.
Any CEO will get a complimentary 90 minutes with me to explore the limits of what is possible together. Does it scale? Nope. Does that matter? Nope. Should I charge? Nope, there should be no pressure on each side and the proverbial gift horse doesn’t get punched.
