Mr Joe Leech

Let’s talk about age…

No matter how old you are we are all conscious of our age.

My 7 year old wants to be a teenager. My 19 year old nephew wants to be 6 again and play with his Lego all day. I’m 50 in the next year. No doubt you feel your age, whatever age that is. Us humans are obsessed with it.

I was talking to a CEO yesterday, he’s a few months into his first CEO role, has young children and he’s approaching 60.

What struck me was his appetite to change and improve. That’s both in terms of his CEO duties but also health, fitness and parenting. It was a joy to talk to him, his energy was engaging and it was clear that energy was driving profound change in his business.

If you read last week’s update you’ll know I have been on a similar journey. I’m healthier, happier and a better human to those around me than I have ever been.

All this has led me to make change to one of my beliefs:

You can and you should teach an old dog new tricks. Those new tricks are what keep that old dog “young”.

As Clint Eastwood famously said, “Don’t Let the Old Man In.”

Next year I want to be happier, healthier and a better human to those around me. More than I am this year.

What about you? What do you need to change?

Now time to take this old dog, he’s 10, out for a walk. Maybe this is the year I’ll teach Little Dude to catch frisbee…
